Facebook Inc. is a modern phenomenon of social networking which revolutionized the way we communicate. Started in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and other Harvard University students, Facebook became the most popular social networking website in the world. In March 2013 the company recorded 1.11 billion monthly active users or 655 million daily active users (Facebook Inc., 2013). This means that Facebook has 1.11 billion profiles which contain private information about their users. This information is stored at the company’s servers and used by Facebook Inc. for different purposes. For example, Facebook can use personal information for advertising, marketing research, sales, revealing of crime, and other purposes. Therefore, the usage of personal information of Facebook users by Facebook Inc. and other stakeholders caused many discussions about violation of the users’ privacy. Consequently, I claim that Facebook Inc. cannot guarantee privacy nowadays. In other words, even though Facebook Inc. issues new security features, it cannot provide informational privacy. However, before I start our discussion about reasonable worries of Facebook privacy, I would like to provide a definition of privacy and its types.
